Outdoor Safety

So that a trip to the woods or relaxing getaway on the beach is not ruined by an accident, it’s important to know how use fire outdoors:

  • heat and prepare food in designated picnic areas;
  • don’t forget to fully extinguish a campfire;
  • don’t toss away cigarette butts, matches and other fire-starting materials.

Burning grass is an extremely relevant issue in springtime. Rare plants, animals and hatching birds perish in these fires; meanwhile, the flames from this burning grass often reach forests, farms and outbuildings. Sometimes these fires even kill people, so don’t ignore burning grass – contact the fire department.

What to do in a lightning storm:

  • don’t stand in high places, under trees or near water;
  • don’t hide under tall awnings or buildings;
  • it’s dangerous to be near a metal fence or electrical cable;
  • it’s dangerous to run;
  • wait for the storm to pass in a shallow ditch or at the bottom of a steep hill.
