Fist aid

Danger

Do not move the victim unless the victim is in danger. Remember: do not expose yourself to danger.

Check for breathing

If the injured person is unconscious, you must open their airways. Carefully bend the chin. Check to see whether he/she is breathing by holding your cheek just above the mouth and looking along the rib cage.

If an unconscious person is breathing, lay them on their side.

If an unconscious person is not breathing, give cardiopulmonary resuscitation. 30 compressions followed by 2 breaths. Continue this rhythm until the ambulance arrives.

Bleeding

Elevate the injured limb and stop the bleeding by applying pressure to the wound. Press a bandage with the sterile gauze over the wound. Prevent shock.

Prevent circulation failure and shock

In the case of internal injuries, circulation can fail.

Lay the victim flat with the feet raised. Keep the victim warm, for example using blankets under and over the body. Do not give the victim anything to eat or drink. Stay calm and handle the victim gently. Stress, pain and cold can worsen shock.
